Go Down, moshe

Go Down, Moshe is a work-in-progress, wherein Marques explores the intersection of his black and Jewish identities by reinterpreting the Passover story told from a first-person perspective, using negro spirituals, traditional nusach, and the narratives of formerly enslaved people.

Marques began developing the work while a member of the Union for Reform Judaism’s JewV’Nation Fellowship, and continued developing the work as a member of the 2018-2019 cohort of LABA: A Laboratory for Jewish Culture at the 14th Street Y.

On Thursday, April 18, 2019, Marques presented an excerpt of Go Down, Moshe at the second LABA Live presentation.
